In Memoriam of The Rev. Dr. William “Bill” Lawson.

Remembering the life and honoring the legacy of The Rev. Dr. William "Bill" Lawson, founding pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.

I had the distinct honor and pleasure of having a few conversations with Dr. Lawson in preparation of my interview of him, honoring his late wife, Mrs. Audrey Lawson as the subject of my show's #Women'sHistoryMonth celebration at The Ensemble Theatre Houston. He was gracious, kind, affirming, brilliant, engaging; a man of profound faith in God.

Dr. Lawson invested his life and time in the betterment of Houston's less fortunate, most notably our homeless neighbors and youth. He was a progenitor of Houston's civil rights movement, developing the brain trust of actions that would later lead to the desegregation of our city.

I grew in his presence. I gleaned from his wisdom. I was touched by his life.

I'm grateful to his daughter, award-winning journalist and anchor Melanie Lawson for the introduction and for assisting in securing the interview.

Please enjoy our conversation and leave your notes of condolences and memories in the comments via the link below.
