Why Ghana?

Why NOT Ghana, is probably the more appropriate question. Since President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced in 2018 that the Year of the Return, 2019, there is renewed interest in Ghana is a place of investment, building, and possibility. The announcement was heard all over the globe, and hosted an array of celebrities internationally, making their way into Ghana to explore, learn, and appreciate their roots, as well as unite with Africans on the continent.

Since then, Ghana has enjoyed and hosted an influx of business opportunists, one of the largest and most recent being Twitter, investors, tourists, expats, and “returnees” to the region. President Akufo-Addo then launched the ‘Beyond the Return Initiate’ for 2020 on December 27, 2019, in Kempinski Accra. It has not been rolled out due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. But this occurance has in no way thwarted interest or travel to Ghana.

Witnessing no waning in interest to “return” to Ghana during the pandemic, many safety and precautionary measures have been put into place for the well-being of citizens and travelers.

Rich with possibility.

Ghana is a country laden and rich with minerals, petroleum, gold, fish, diamonds, and more. Though likely best known for its agricultural economy, the country has the potential for robust in other areas, where industry has not been widely introduced.

Ghana is likely Africa’s largest gold reserve, but is classified as a lower- to middle-income economy though it is well endowed with natural resources. This is a contradiction worthy of investigation in our minds. The country has seen strong economic growth recently — its GDP grew 6.3 percent in 2018. In addition to gold, the country also exports resources such as cocoa, oil, timber, electricity, diamonds, bauxite and manganese; they are all major sources of foreign revenue. However, foreign revenue and the presence of corruption have led to unfair economic exchange between locals and others. However, it is our opinion based on our discussions with ministry and cabinet leaders, chieftaincy, and business leaders that the aggressive removal of foreign economic dependency and corruption under Nana Addo’s regime, makes Ghana a county rich with possibilities.
